FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How durable is a Cala board?

In one word: VERY. We have carried out a lot of tests that show how durable they are, so you don't have to! Treat it well and it will be a great travel and adventure companion.

Can I learn how to SUP on a Cala board?

Absolutely! Because they are inflatable boards, they are kinder to your body when you fall. Many SUP schools around the world opt for inflatable boards as their first choice.

How do inflatable boards compare to hard ones?

When properly inflated and used for general Stand Up Paddling, you will hardly notice a difference. For high-performance surfing, you will notice that you have to adapt your style as the inflatable board shifts differently; but it still rides well. The main benefit is that you can deflate it, roll it up and hide it in the back of the car, making transportation very easy. Our boards love to travel.

How long can I leave the board without deflating it?

Over time, you will experience some pressure loss, especially when there are temperature changes. Just touch it to check it before going into the water. The board should always be stored out of direct sunlight and, if it’s not used for a while, the pressure should be reduced to less than 15 psi.

How much pressure does the board need?

Our boards are designed to hold a lot of pressure although it is not necessary for the pressure to be higher than 25 psi. Going above that pressure won’t increase the stiffness of the board, but you'll find that it is harder to push the valve to deflate the board and of course it takes longer to inflate. For general use, 15-22psi is best. Faster and more advanced riders will benefit from a pressure close to 20psi.

How do I maintain my board?

Treating your board like an old friend will keep it looking good longer. Ideally, wash it with fresh water after each use, keep it out of direct sunlight, and store it rolled up loosely.

Inflatable boards don't like to cook in the sun, so keeping them cool and shaded when not in use is the key to a long and fruitful life.

What do I get in the repair kit?

In the unlikely event that there is a hole in the board, in the repair kit (which comes with each board) you'll find some glue and patches that can be used to get it working again. A good repair should be left overnight to dry. There is also a valve tool in the repair kit. It is used to remove the valve from the board to repair it. You may never have to remove it, but if you do, you'll have the right tool for the job.

Will the hot sun cause the board to inflate too much?

No, but we do not recommend leaving the board exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time. Following this advice will help to keep your board in good shape for as long as possible.

What is the best way to store the board?

You can store the board rolled-up in the bag or fully /partially inflated. If you are not planning on using your board for a while, we recommend storing it in a cool, dry place loosely rolled up.
